HH Robertson on "Taking the Longer View"

May 3, 2010

HH Robertson offers building professionals a new brochure outlining the many benefits of in-floor cable distribution systems. Called "Taking the Longer View", it is written for forward-thinking industry professionals and emphasizes the long-term advantages of in-floor cable distribution systems.

An HH Robertson system is an aesthetically preferable, cost-efficient, safe, and sustainable method of distributing cable throughout a facility. Once the dominant approach, in-floor distribution fell out of fashion in the 1980's due to the system's inability to accommodate large-diameter computer network cables. With today's ever-smaller diameter cables and the prevalence of wireless technology, however, architects are wisely returning to the in-floor method, and they aren't looking back.

Only in-floor cable distribution ensures the most long-term safety benefits to a building's occupants. For example, in-floor distribution eliminates the leaching of hazardous lead and cadmium particles into the air, a danger that occurs unchecked with standard plenum (ceiling) cabling.

An HH Robertson system is the most sustainable distribution method, as it is Cradle to CradleCM certified at the Silver level for its environmentally resourceful design. Installing an HH Robertson system also qualifies a building for LEED credits, a designation that further testifies to the assembly's long-term advantages.

To learn more about the lasting benefits of an HH Robertson system, be sure to request a copy of the new brochure, or download it here.

HH Robertson Earns Cradle-to-Cradle Certification

September 7, 2010

HH Robertson in-floor cable distribution systems are Cradle to Cradle Certified at the Silver level by the MBDC. This certification means that HH Robertson systems meet established standards for human health, environmental health and recyclability.

HH Robertson in-floor cabling distribution systems contain a high percentage of recycled content, are fully recyclable, minimize jobsite waste and conserve materials during the manufacturing process.

These materials include conduit, cable trays, power poles, poke-thru devices, access floor panels and pedestals, and others. Since HH Robertson's in-floor cable distribution system also serves as the steel decking for steel frame construction, use of the system represents a significant net reduction in material usage, while enhancing the health, safety and welfare of building occupants.

The use of HH Robertson systems contributes to LEED certification. For more information on how to choose a cable distribution and management system with sustainable qualities, check out this article at Environmental Design and Construction.

Wired for Sustainability

June 1, 2010 – by Kevin Daily

Building smart with in-floor cable distribution systems.

In the past, there has often been a disconnect between the initial design plans of a building and the implementation, particularly where floor systems were concerned. While sustainability has long been an important aspect of their design, architects were mainly focused on the macro-aesthetics and functionality of the building. Today, as the building and construction industry continues to evolve - and as we continue to build more of these "smart" buildings - architects are being given more responsibility for decisions at the micro-aesthetic and functionality level. Now with their increased responsibility, the connection between a truly sustainable floor system and a fully integrated building are stronger than ever.

April 2, 2009

H.H. Robertson Floor Systems has been chosen to install its major in-floor wire distribution system for two new projects in the Midwest. The projects are for Medline Industries, Inc.'s new call center in Dubuque, Iowa, and the Health, Physical Exercise & Recreation (HPER) Building on the campus of the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

For the University of Nebraska, Omaha, H.H. Robertson Floor Systems will play a critical role in the expansion and renovation of the HPER Building.
